Nyamyam is an independent game developer based in the UK. We strive to create beautifully crafted-games, with unconventional concepts.
Nyamyam was founded in 2010 by Jennifer Schneidereit and Phil Tossell. The pair met while working at Rare. By January 2011, they had left Rare and begun development on their game Tengami, their goal being to create a stand-out experience for tablets with touch-screen interfaces. Though coming from a background in AAA,in which roles tend to be specialised and segregated, Jennifer and Phil decided to take a different approach to game development - one in which everyone is considered a game creator first and an expert in a specific role - such as programming, design or art - second. With Nyamyam, they built a team dynamic in which members are able to collaborate freely and contribute to all aspects that go into creating a game. In September of 2013, Ryo Agarie, who had joined the team to work on Tengami, was appointed as one of the a company directors. Soon thereafter, Tengami was released on iOS in February 2014. It received Apple’s “Editor’s Choice” award worldwide, and won several awards. Over the following two years, Nyamyam ported and released Tengami on Wii U, PC, Mac and Android. At the end of 2016, Jennifer, Phil and Ryo decided to part ways and in January of 2017, Phil and Ryo resigned from the board of directors. Since January 2017, Nyamyam has been working on their new title “Astrologaster”, a comedy game about 16th century medical astrology. The development of Astrologaster is supported by grants from the Creative Europe Media program and the Wellcome Trust.
